Royal Pelagic

The vessel was originally launched in 1968 as the “Aleutian Rover” by Martinolich Shipbuilding in Tacoma, WA for service in the Bearing Sea’s commercial King Crab fishery. Through out her history as a crabber, several significant improvements were made apart from normal routine maintenance. During a major refit in 1992 at Union Bay Shipbuilding in Seattle, WA the vessel was fit with sponsons, which re-plated her entire hull and added approximately six feet of beam; bringing her to a total of 32.8 feet wide. In 1995 she was re-powered and lengthened with the addition of a 29 foot midsection by Duwamish Shipyard in Seattle WA.

When she was purchased by her current owner in 2005, a year long refit was started converting her into her current configuration as the expedition vessel -“Royal Pelagic”. Special attention was placed to every detail and no expense was spared during this extreme make over. Work was performed at Barnacle Point Shipyard in Seattle, WA and Al Larson Boat Shop in San Pedro, CA.

In 2008, after eighteen months as a professional surfing charter vessel, in continual pursuit of greatness and to ready her for private ownership, she was hauled out of the water and underwent further improvements. Apart from routine maintenance the most noteworthy was the rebuild of her main engine. The successful completion of these recent refurbishments has rendered the vessel turn key for the future owner, leaving little else to consider other than her destination.

The Royal Pelagic is currently in dry dock at Gran Peninsula in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.
